  1. Can I take an existing e-learning course and send it to a mobile device?
Not at this time. Pre-existing content, elements and applications have to be re-authored for wireless delivery. And, since your material was probably developed with a standard PC screen in mind, it would not perform well on 5% of the screen size. You can re-author your existing content for mobile delivery yourself using the LMA or OHE can reauthor it for you.
  2. What is WAP?
Wireless Application Protocol, which enables a mobile device to receive data over the Internet.
  3. What mobile device devices work with the mobile learning platform from Hot Lava?
Hot Lava works with any mobile device that can do one of the following: access the Web, synch with a PC, or hold and SD Card. In order to report results back to the Mobile Delivery and Tracking System, you must have Web access.
  4. Does a mobile user have to be on the web while participating in a learning session?
Optionally, the user can access and complete a module in real time or download a course/module into their mobile device and access it later off line. When the work is complete, the user sends the results via their mobile device back to the MDTS over the Web. See question #5 for non-activated browser options.
  5. Can mobile applications be accessed without a browser? What about messaging?
Text messaging (SMS) alone does not allow an application to be accessed and results reported back to the MDTS. User access and reporting is best achieved with a browser enabled mobile device. For mobile devices without Internet access, there are workarounds. Content can be loaded on a Secure Digital Card (SD Card) that is inserted into the mobile device. Devices that synch with the PC can plug into the USB port and download the module. At this time, reporting results still requires a browser on the mobile device that will connect to the MDTS.
  6. What if I have a user or student with no mobile device or disabilities that prevent use of a mobile device? Are they excluded from the mobile applications or courses?
No they are not excluded. Once you publish to the MDTS server, the content is available on a Web-enabled desktop or laptop computer and can be accessed by the user and results reported to the MDTS.
  7. Is mobile delivery expensive?
Mobile delivery is not free. There are two levels of pricing. One is for the LMA authoring tool and the other the per-user fee on the MDTS. To get started, we recommend a robust pilot with two LMAs and 100 users for up to one year - $4,000. Contact Us and we will discuss pricing options with you. Review the Getting Started section and follow the steps for exploring mobile learning in your organization.
  8. Can the user results report back to our LMS or HR System?
MDTS data can easily be integrated with your LMS or HR system. All systems supported.
  9. Is LMA difficult to learn?
Not at all - if you are experienced with authoring systems, you’ll be able to dive right in. For new authors, we provide complete LMA training. You can be authoring mobile content in less than ½ a day.
  10. How do OHE Associates and Hot Lava Software work together?
OHE Associates is a Hot Lava Software Partner. OHE provides turnkey solutions to your organization. From getting you started, to running a pilot, to a full-scale rollout, we are your partner in mobile development and delivery and will work with you step-by-step.
